Night At The Infirmary Classes Guide

How Classes Work in UPD 2

UPD 2 added a class system that reshapes how you survive Night At The Infirmary. Each class grants passive perks — starting Sanity, wheelchair speed, operating speed, registering speed, Sanity drain reduction, treat gains, or exorcism bonuses. You buy classes with Shards earned by treating patients and finishing nights. Legendary classes can also cost Robux when stocked.

Open Classes in the lobby before the portal. Equip one class per shift. Progress from Level 1 to Level 3 with Class EXP earned while that class is active. Patch context: UPD 2 notes. Free starter Shards: redeem UPD2 on the codes page.

How to Buy and Level Up

  1. Stay in the lobby — do not enter the portal yet.
  2. Open the Classes button on screen.
  3. Select a class that is currently in stock.
  4. Pay with Shards (or Robux for supported Legendaries).
  5. Play shifts with it equipped to fill the Class EXP bar under its name.

The shop inventory rotates every 24 hours. If Surgeon or Plague Doctor is missing, wait for the daily reset. Legendary stock chance is extremely low — purchase immediately when one appears. You cannot gift classes to friends.

All Nine Classes — Costs and Perks

Rookie (Common · 250 Shards) — L1: begin with 105 Sanity · L2: 110 · L3: 115. Simple starter Sanity pad.

Ward Assistant (Common · 400) — Starts with lower personal Sanity but grants whole-team operating speed (L1 +17%, L2 +33%, L3 +50%). Strong squad pick.

Receptionist (Rare · 750) — Wheelchair speed (+10/15/20%) and registering speed (+25/30/35%). Speeds desk intake.

Surgeon (Rare · 1000) — Wheelchair (+10/15/20%) and operating speed (+33/50/83%). Best early Shard investment for clear speed and speedruns.

The Survivor (Epic · 1500) — Lower starting Sanity, higher walkspeed (+15/20/25%), and Sanity drain reduction (−25/30/35%). Mobility-focused midgame.

Head Doctor (Epic · 2500) — High starting Sanity (115→125) plus +30/40/50% Sanity gain from treating. Excellent sustain for long nights.

Therapist (Epic · cost TBA) — Whole-team treat Sanity gain (+20/30/40%) and team Sanity drain reduction (−10/15/18%). Ideal coordinated squad support.

Plague Doctor (Legendary · 6000 Shards or 360 Robux) — −25/30/35% Sanity effect, +15/22/30% wheelchair, +33/50/67% operating. Best solo class when stocked.

Exorcist (Legendary · cost TBA) — Extra Sanity from exorcising (+50/60/70%), faster exorcism (+20/25/30%), and temporary wheelchair boost after a successful exorcism (60s). Excels when anomalies slip inside — see beat anomalies.

Best Classes by Playstyle

  • New players — Redeem UPD2, grind to Surgeon (1000 Shards). Pair with beginner.
  • Solo — Plague Doctor when available; otherwise Head Doctor or leveled Surgeon.
  • Squads — One Ward Assistant for team ops speed; one Therapist for shared Sanity if stocked.
  • Exorcism-heavy nights — Exorcist once you can afford Legendary stock luck.

Sanity math and recovery loops are covered on Sanity system and survive shifts.

Shop Rotation Tips

Check the daily timer every login. Commons and Rares fill most rotations. Seeing zero Legendaries after a reset is normal. Do not spend every Shard on Rookie upgrades if you are close to Surgeon — save for the Rare that actually changes clear speed.

After buying, confirm the class is equipped before warping. Wrong-equip is a common reason players think perks “do nothing.” Cross-check live patch wording on UPD 2 if numbers shift in a hotfix.
